The Karnataka High Court on Saturday ordered a ban on political parties and others from visiting a 42-year-old woman from Belgavi who was recently beaten and stripped in public after her son molested a village girl.
Office of the Chief Justice PB Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit he issued the order quickly after he came to know of a Times Now media report which said that the victim will be visited by representatives of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and representatives of the political party.
The court found that although it is not unusual for people who have been affected by the accident to visit hospitals, such visits may cause the injured person to be less mentally ill.
“The visit of people to the hospital to see the victim, in the current situation, is not unusual. The court does not want to prevent any citizen from traveling; he has been receiving medical treatment, as far as we are concerned, the arrival of visitors may affect the health of the victim and interfere with the ongoing medical treatment. the victim and that receive medical care without interruption,” The Court’s order said.
Therefore, the court ordered that no one, whether a person, group, organization, political party or others, will go to the place where the victim is, unless he receives a written permission from the head doctor of the hospital or a doctor. a doctor is treating the injured.
However, the Court explained that this law cannot prevent the relatives of the victim, representatives of public authorities/committees or investigative agencies from visiting the victim.
“Needless to say that this law will not prevent the relatives of the victim, representatives of the Statutory Authorities / Commissions or Investigating Organizations to visit the victim when necessary,” The court explained.
This happened in the early hours of the 11th of December when the son of the murdered woman had sex with a girl from the same village, whose family was founded by another man.
The 42-year-old woman is said to have been tied to a tree, beaten, stripped and protested in the village after the girl’s relatives found out that she had run away from home.
The police said they rushed to the spot to rescue the woman, after a villager informed the authorities.
The Supreme Court took cognizance of the incident on December 12.
On December 14, the Court asked the government to submit an additional report on the matter, after realizing that the report already submitted did not contain details about the psychiatric counseling and other support provided to the victim.
Meanwhile, it has been said that eleven people have been arrested so far for participating in alleged public assaults.
On December 16 (today), the victim is said to have been visited again by a team from the NHRC, which took cognizance of the incident, and an inspection team from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
