KHONSA, 17 Dec: The postmortem of former MLA Yumsen Matey, who was shot dead on Saturday afternoon by unknown assailants, was conducted here in Tirap district on Sunday.

The body of the slain leader was recovered from the scene of the incident, which is near Raho village in Lazu district. After completing the medical procedures, his body was brought to his home.

According to sources, the bereaved family, in cooperation with well-wishers, will decide when to hold his last ceremony. On Sunday, several people, including Khonsa West MLA Chakat Aboh, met the bereaved family. When his body was brought back to his home, the whole area changed dramatically.

“How long will we suffer and when will the government take action to stop the bloodshed in Tirap?” the mourner asked.

According to reports, Matey was killed near the village of Raho, which is a few hours away from the Indo-Myanmar border. It is said that he used to go to Raho along with some of his servants. The police are currently gathering information about the matter.

“A detailed report is required. Based on this, they will take action,” said the police chief.

Prime Minister Pema Khandu said he was deeply saddened by the killing of Matey, and said “the government will ensure that the culprits are arrested as soon as possible.”

In a message posted on social media, Mr. Khandu expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and strongly condemned this terrible act.

“My deepest condolences to the family, and I can assure you that the government stands by them in this time of grief,” he said.

The chief minister also said that the Arunachal Pradesh police have been asked to “expedite the investigation and ensure that the culprits are arrested soon.”

Interior Minister Bamang Felix announced that “the government is committed to a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice, and to ensure that they face all the laws in this heinous crime.”

While mourning the death of Matey, Felix said that “killing a person is a very cruel thing that is very different from the values ​​of peaceful and civilized people.”

“We are standing together in mourning and seeking justice,” said the minister.

Governor KT Parnaik also condoled the funeral of the former MLA, and said “the government, especially the people of Tirap, have lost a human rights activist who helped the government a lot in various areas.”

The governor offered his condolences to the bereaved family, and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Strongly condemning the brutal killing, he called for “strong action to be taken against the perpetrators of the violence,” and said that the perpetrators of the violence will be brought to justice.

Parliamentary Speaker PD Sona was shocked by Matey’s sudden death. Strongly condemning the killing, he called for a “thorough investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Yumsen Matey’s death,” and urged the authorities to “quickly identify and bring to justice those responsible.”
