Kerala Governor on ‘disgraceful’ picture in university: ‘It can’t be done without CM…’

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday launched another attack on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan saying that his “deliberate” actions are “adding to the breakdown of machinery” in the state. The latest salvo came as a result of the SFI’s act of putting up black posters and placards outside the Calicut University guest house, where Khan was staying.

Upset by a placard written by the student’s group calling him ‘Sanghi’, Khan shot off a scathing letter criticizing Vijayan for the line. In his statement, he said “this cannot be done without the guidance of the prime minister”.

“Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has taken serious note of the actions of the state police, under the direction of the Prime Minister, by placing posters insulting the Governor on the campus of Calicut University. Black posters and placards were placed inside the campus, outside the University Guest House where the governor is staying. His Excellency the Governor feels that this It cannot be done without the Prime Minister’s guidance and this is the beginning of the collapse of the governance machinery of the country. This deliberate action by the Prime Minister leads to the breakdown of the legitimacy machinery,” he said at the Raj Bhavan.

Meanwhile, Vijayan said that Khan is disturbing the peace of Kerala.

“Arif Mohammad Khan is doing something to destroy the peaceful environment of Kerala,” he said.

Drama at Calicut University

Interesting scenes were taking place inside the university. According to news agency PTI, the governor criticized the police for failing to remove the banner.

“Why is this (flag) here? I am asking you (police) if the CM is going to be here, will you allow this? You want to mock me? Enough, you are trying to mock law and order. If not now, in 3-4 months you have to answer. This CM will not last forever. Don’t think you’re not going to be accepted. Don’t live under that mindset. You’re not going to be accepted,” he said angrily. Khan shouted at the police.

He said the police have no shame. He said the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the CPI(M), is running the university.

“Shameless people. SFI is running the university. They will put up posters outside the guest house and you (police) will have them there?” he asked.

He returned to the guest house after the police took down the sign, it said.

Khan also sought an explanation from the Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University on the poster.

Left activists have been protesting against the governor saying they want to install BJP candidates in the senate of various universities in Kerala.

Earlier this month, Khan said SFI activists had attacked him. He was on his way to Thiruvananthapuram airport when SFI activists allegedly attacked his car. Governor Khan accused Vijayan of trying to harm him.

The Kerala government and the governor have been at loggerheads over many issues, including the delay in responding to bills passed by the assembly.

Last week, the CPIM said that Khan was pushing his demands in the Sangh Parivar and had campaigned against the government.
