On 26 September 2023, Ava Evans became the subject of controversy after Laurence Fox made offensive and sexist comments about her on GB News. Fox was a guest on Dan Wootton’s show, where he reacted to Evans’ remarks on BBC Politics Live the previous day. Evans had said that calls for a minister for men “feed into the culture war” and that mental illness is “a crisis that’s endemic throughout the country, not specific to men”.
Fox called Evans a “little woman” who had been “spoon-fed oppression” and asked: “Show me a single self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman ever, ever”. He also said: “We need powerful strong amazing women who make great points for themselves. We don’t need these sort of feminist 4.0… they’re pathetic and embarrassing. Who’d want to shag that?”
Wootton did not challenge Fox’s comments and laughed along with him. He later apologized for his reaction and said he should have intervened immediately.
