The Congress party’s ‘Donate for Desh’ fundraising campaign has already hit the road – technically – within hours of its launch today. It appears that the party did not register the domain name before announcing the event and, ironically, clicking on DonateforDesh.org takes the visitor to the BJP’s donation page. Additionally, another similar domain in the name of Donate for Desh campaign has been found by the news site OpIndia.

The Congress, meanwhile, accused the BJP of “impersonating” and “creating fake constituencies to confuse the people”. The name of the party’s campaign is donateinc.net.

Supriya Shrinate, a Congress leader and the party’s chief digital officer, said the BJP is “in danger” after the main party started its campaign to donate.

“Why is BJP scared even though it has all the autonomy, all the institutions, all the support and lots of money? When the Congress started the fundraising campaign, not only did they (BJP) get scared but their system started creating fake constituencies and destabilizing them. , thank you taking us – it’s good to see your fear,” he wrote on X in Hindi.

The campaign, the Congress said, aims to “empower the party to make India prosperous through distribution and equal opportunities”.

Mr Kharge cited the example of Mahatma Gandhi who also “took donations from people during the freedom struggle”.

The payment link on the website encourages donors to donate Rs 138 or Rs 1,380 or Rs 13,800 to mark 138 years of the Congress party.

In the letter X, the Congress said, “Beyond the campaign, I am committed to promoting the rights of the underprivileged, to bridge the gap, and to strongly oppose the government that favors the rich”.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal told reporters yesterday that the campaign will remain online till December 28 – the party’s launch day – after which it will start an underground campaign, including door-to-door visits with volunteers, to follow at least. 10 houses in each hut to pay at least Rs 138 from each unit.

Venugopal said government office workers, elected representatives, District Congress Committee presidents, PCC chiefs and AICC officials have been encouraged to donate at least Rs 1,380 each.

“To make this campaign effective, all PCC presidents will identify potential donors among the aspirants and party workers, aiming to donate Rs 1,380 or Rs 13,800. This strategy will ensure that our vision of a better India is successful,” he said. .

Congress treasurer Ajay Maken said the ‘Donate for Desh’ campaign will work as an umbrella for several fundraising campaigns.
