Kejriwal was summoned by the ED on January 3 in a liquor investigation. This is the third time Latest India News » Today Latest Stories
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on January 3 in connection with the liquor probe. This is the third recall after Kejriwal skipped the first two. The third summons came on the day Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was denied bail as the court said the case against him was genuine and the evidence presented showed his involvement in alleged money laundering.
Kejriwal was summoned by the CEO first on November 2. Kejriwal skipped the summons and said he had governance-related work in Delhi before Diwali and was also scheduled to campaign for the party in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The ED issued a second summons asking him to appear on December 21. Kejriwal had gone for Vipassana the day before and skipped the second summons as well.
“The timing of your summons leaves much to be desired, and reinforces my belief that the summons sent to me is not based on any objective or rational measure, but rather on external considerations at the request of political rivals who wish to silence the voice of opposition to power.” “The ruling dispensation is in place at the Center to create sensational news in the last few months leading up to the Parliamentary elections in early to mid-2024,” Kejriwal wrote to the ED.
“On the eve of my departure to attend a Vipassana meditation course which was widely publicized and widely circulated in all the media of the country and also officially announced, much to my dismay and interest, I received a summons for the matter,” Kejriwal added.
“Your summons appears to be a roving investigation. In similar circumstances, where individuals are not informed of the details of the case or the capacity in which they are being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate, the High Courts have declared this summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate invalid. The reply said “Canceled the summons.”
Kejriwal, as a law-abiding and conscientious ordinary citizen, has nothing to hide, he wrote. “I have a life of dignity, honor and complete transparency. According to my schedule, known to everyone, starting 12.20.2023, I will attend the Vipassana meditation course which I have been attending annually for the past 25 years,” he wrote.
Kejriwal was scheduled to leave for Vipassana on Tuesday but postponed it for the India Caucus meeting. He left for Vipassana on Wednesday around 1.30pm.
